Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.23 (20090812)

Many of my e-mail rules have to be duplicated: once to match the From field, and once to match the Sender field. It would be nice, and relatively easy, to add an option to look at both just as the option is there for "To or cc."

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try creating a new mail filter, and look at the options
Actual Results:
"Sender" and "From" are both there, but not together

Expected Results:
Put another option with "From or Sender."

"Sender" is not a standard search term, so I assume that it was added by you as a custom search term. Since it does not occur by itself by default, it is not likely to be added as a default search term. You should also note that the "From" term is not exactly the "From" header. Instead, it is set to the value of one of three headers, with "From" being the first priority, but it will pick up "Sender" if "From" is missing. Confusingly, it is actually called "Sender" internally.

But TB3 (and SM2) have a new feature that allows extensions to add custom search terms, and that is a more likely place to add specialized terms like this. I will be adding some custom search terms to my FiltaQuilla extension in its next release. I'll add your request to my list of possible terms to add there.
"Sender" is a standard search term in the mail filters, at least on version 2.0.0.23. To see it, go to Tools->Message Filters->New, and click the drop-down menu which shows "Subject" by default.

The confusion with internal terms may also be behind but 525022, which notes that the "Sender" filters don't always work, especially when that field is different from the From: or Reply-To: fields. (Are those the three you mentioned?)
Sorry for the readability issue in the second paragraph; I meant "bug 525022." My question was about if the "Sender" internal name refers to the three fields "Sender, From, and Reply-To."
Depends on: 525022
Severity: normal → S3
