Seen while running Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2b1) Gecko/20091029 Firefox/3.6b1
STR:
1. Running a clean profile, and this warning popped up. I think Gmail was running at the time.
2. I tried to close the dialog but the buttons became nonresponsive.
3. There was also a download/file save in progress.
4. I could not force quit Firefox and had to restart my whole system.
http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=el&comments_parentId=131247&forumId=1 seems to support that others are seeing this, but with other versions of Firefox

I added a screenshot of a very similar lockup that happened for me on Firefox 3.6.6. Conditions are nearly identical to the original problem description.

the (Mac) hang is bug 476541.
do you want to keep this open for the unresponsive script part, or dup to bug 476541 for the hang part?
Severity: normal → critical

Bug 585813 is another script timeout in (another part of?) tabbrowser.xml.

I get a different line:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.
Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:3163

I'm getting it on line 2088 with Firefox 34 a lot.

Per comment 4, the fact that Firefox hangs when an "unresponsive script" comes up when a modal dialog is open, is bug 476541.
The problems behind the "unresponsive script" errors should be tracked separately. To track them, we need to know what source code the line # in the error corresponds to - see bug 1041788 comment 7 for instructions.
I think we should close this bug to reduce confusion, since it probably won't result in a fix.
* The error from comment 0 is somewhere in mTabProgressListener <https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-release/annotate/4f6351d943ef/browser/base/content/tabbrowser.xml#l451>, I don't think it's worth it to go hunting for the exact line now.
* The errors in comments 6 and 8 are different, and should probably be filed separately if they still occur.
* There's already bug 1078280 for an "unresponsive script" in tabbrowser.xml (_endRemoveTab, currently lines 2100-2200), related to closing tabs and/or having many tabs open.

Marcia,
Is this issue WFM for newer version of FF?
(to determine the fate of this bug)

I haven't seen this lately. I think we can lose this as WFM.
