User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; he-IL; rv:1.9.0.15) Gecko/2009102815 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.15 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; he-IL; rv:1.9.0.15) Gecko/2009102815 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.15 When a bookmark is dragged onto the desktop, the favicon isn't copied along with it. I mean that the new icon on the desktop doesn't have the favicon that the bookmark had, but some default web link icon. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Load a web page which has a favicon. 2. Using the mouse, drag the current tab and drop it on the GNOME desktop. Actual Results: The desktop file created has some default icon. Expected Results: I think that the icon for the .desktop file created should be the page's favicon.

I can confirm that this is and has been standard behavior in Ubuntu since at least 5.04 (Hoary). Since having the favicon used on the desktop link (as the submitter has explained in Expected Results) has been the norm for Windows for at least a decade and I believe also Mac, this bug is probably noticed by most new users of Ubuntu. They may just think it is a feature that doesn't work on Linux and put up with it as I have. However, unless there is a major block to implementing it, it would seem a good idea if for no other reason than to remove an unnecessary frustration and source of support requests. It would also keep the behavior of bookmarks consistent, no matter where they are located.
Severity: normal → S3
