1.) Edit>Mail/News Account Settings>Server. Select Use SSL. 2.) Get mail from the Netscape imap server. What is expected: That you should be asked for your certificate. What happens: You are not asked for your certificate.

Changing Platform and OS to all. The original 2 steps are now reproducible on Win98 and Linux also. The SSL/IMAP pref is being ignored, and I am not being asked for a certificate.

The first questioned that needs to be answered is "Does the client try to start an SSL connection?" If the answer is no, then this is not a security bug, but an IMAP bug.

This seems dup of one of Mac bug which I logged long time ago, I wil try to find that...
I did verify on bug 39154 on Linux & WinNT platforms. But, for Mac, there was bug 45935 which I logged on 2000-07-19 already. This bug should be dup of bug 45935. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 45935 ***
