User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_2; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.3 Safari/531.9
Build Identifier: Version 2.0 (1.9.0.15 2009102617)
When I have an automatic proxy configuration loaded via the system preferences in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Camino cannot load a page (even the default start page), and I get a spinning beach ball. Resetting Camino's preferences does not help, and this problem was also present for me in 1.6.10. The proxy config I use is: http://proxy.lib.berkeley.edu:7777/proxy.pac
I can work around this by turning camino.use_system_proxy_settings to false, but then my proxy doesn't work.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure auto proxy in System Preferences
2. Launch Camino
Actual Results:
Camino hangs, not loading even the default start page.
Expected Results:
Default start page loads.
I have not seen any discussion of this problem, which makes me wonder if it is particular to the proxy settings file I'm using, given above.
Can you take a sample of Camino when the beachballing starts and add it as an attachment here? http://caminobrowser.org/documentation/bugzilla/#hang
This is probably some variant of bug 351678 (which could ultimately be bug 235853), but I don't see any of the problematic proxy statements in your file, either. Could maybe be bug 188006, too?
By "take a sample" do you mean screenshot? Or is there a log file somewhere....
http://caminobrowser.org/documentation/bugzilla/#hang provides instructions on taking a sample using Activity Monitor; Activity Monitor will let you save it as a text file, which you can add as an attachment here (using the "Add an attachment" link up above).
Interestingly, in trying to use Camino at a different house, I am not having the problems described even with the proxy settings engaged. Perhaps the router makes a difference somehow? At home I have 2wire router/modem provided by ATT, which I access over wireless. The network in which I did not have a problem uses an Apple Airport Extreme. I will verify that the issue persists once I get home to make sure I didn't inadvertently make another change, besides location.
The hang described persists in the network provided by a 2Wire 3800HGV-B Gateway. Does that make the bug easier or more difficult to squash? Is there any information on the gateway that I can provide?

I'm having this issue as well. It's only since changing my configuration to use a proxy.pac file. Manually entering each proxy (http/https) or using no proxy at all resolves this issue. Normally after a number of force//normal quits and re-launch the issue goes away. Sometime I can load a page or 2 after a (re-)launch Camino and the issue will show.
Does setting this hidden preference "fix" things? http://caminobrowser.org/documentation/hiddenprefs/#DisableBookmarkIcons
(I'd be curious to know what happens both if you just set the pref, and also if you set the pref and move aside the ~/Library/Caches/Camino/IconCache folder.)
Shannon, if you could attach a sample here from when you're hanging, that would be helpful, too (see comment 3).

Setting "browser.chrome.favicons" to false AND moving the iConCache folder aside appears to have resolved the issue. Reverting the change and starting with a clean folder made the issue return.
I will attach a sample as requested.

Activity Monitor sample process when Camino is in a red "Not Responding" state
Thanks for the sample, Shannon. You're definitely experiencing what we've been tracking as bug 351678 :( (your sample is different than Ryan's; his contains no reference to the site icons).
