If I launch the browser on a cell data connection and then switch to wifi, I'm stuck in offline mode and unable to get out of it without restarting the browser.

I spent some time testing this today. I added a printf in the conic connection callback so I could see what the OS was doing with the connection. I saw the callback disconnecting & connecting as I switched from gsm to wifi and back to gsm. This is good. I experienced no problems, not even offline error pages as long as I allowed the webpages to finish loading before switch from gsm to wifi (or vice versa). I saw offline error pages if I switched while a page was loading. Clicking try again or picking a new webpage brought me back online and I could continue browsing. Stuart, do you have more info I can use to try to reproduce?
Joel reports similar experiences. Switching works as expected. When he did go offline, he was able to go back online.
i followed the exact steps that stuart stated. 1) started with a gprs connection 2) loaded a few pages 3) changed to wifi Then tried to load a new page 1) got the offline mode content 2) clicked on the "try again" button 3) was able to continue browsing over wifi
can't reproduce: steps done: (internet connection settings included "connect automatically to wifi" and "connect to t-mobile") 1. run fennec 2. go to www.newgrounds.com 3. disconnect from 3g 4. go back to fennec and load mail.yahoo.com 5. reload the page After step 4, the browser will not be able to connect to mail.yahoo.com. After step 5, it will. In both instances after step 5, I check the internet connection and either the wifi was re-connected or the 3g was re-connected.
This is no repro for me as well. I followed the same steps as Aakash. I didn't even have to reload the page. I was on boinboing.net when on AT&T. It finished loading and then I changed from AT&T to my local wifi. I then loaded my blog and everything loaded fine.
try switching providers during a page load (like planet.mozilla.org, nypost.com, nytimes.com, etc..). also maybe clicking links on a page or zooming in. Some pages have ajax info (like gmail) and switching between providers might get us stuck. One other thought I had was changing between these states: - wifi ap 1 - wifi ap 2 - at&t - no signal
Cannot reproduce after copying stuart's settings and trying to reproduce this at different search-for-wifi intervals (never, 5, 10) and connect automatically settings (wi-fi, t-mobile internet and any connection) using the steps to reproduce in comment #4
Cannot reproduce after hard-killing the 3g and wifi connection by going up-and-down the elevators under the same scenarios mentioned in my previous comment.

I can reproduce this very reliably with the following STR: 1. In maemo "Settings" app | Connections, ensure "Connect automatically" is set to **"Always Ask"** 2. If you're connected to the internet, disconnect. 3. Open Fennec --> Maemo will prompt you to "Select connection". Click outside that dialog to refuse it. (Refuse it again if it reprompts) 4. Type "google.com" into fennec URL bar, and hit 'go' button --> Maemo will probably prompt you again to select connection. Again, click outside to refuse. 5. Reload, or type another URL into fennec URL bar and hit 'go' button. --> No prompts now, just an "offline mode" page (which mentions both "Firefox" and "Fennec", btw) 6. NOW: switch out to your desktop, and manually connect to the internet. (click tab at top of main desktop, choose "Internet connection", etc) 7. Switch back to Fennec, and try to reload or visit a URL ACTUAL RESULTS: Fennec is still in offline mode, even though my phone is now connected to the internet. EXPECTED RESULTS: Fennec should detect that I'm connected and leave offline mode (or offer me the option) I'm running up-to-date Fennec from Mozilla's "trunk_en-US" maemo catalog. Current version is 1.1~a2~20100406010924
I can't seem to reproduce the problem mentioned in comment 9, using: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux armv7l; Nokia N900; en-US; rv:1.9.2.5pre) Gecko/20100503 Namoroka/3.6.5pre Fennec/1.1b2pre Daniel, could you perhaps retry? (I can see the mixing of Fennec and Firefox brand in comment 5, though. I guess a new bug should be filed for that)
Just reproduced comment 9 successfully, though it took a little longer than described there. At step 5, from typing in URLs and/or hitting 'reload' button, I got additional "Select Connection" reprompts for a little bit (which is probably desirable behavior, I think). I dismissed them all. And then at some point (after maybe 20 seconds), I stopped getting those prompts, for any subsequently typed URLs or reload-button-pushes. Then I went on to step 6 and 7, with (buggy) results matching comment 9. This is with latest Fennec version from Mozilla's trunk_en-US maemo catalog, with Gecko version 1.9.3a5pre Gecko/20100503. (looks like Martijn is using 1.9.2 in comment 10, if that matters)
