User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.5.1 Firefox and Thunderbird determine the availability of plug-in updates while the process is active, but wait until the next session starts to prompt for updates. Normally this isn't a problem, but lately I've been noticing a few of my larger plug-ins cause a noticeably long wait time. While understandable, it is very annoying. I don't want to wait a few minutes while the update downloads and restarts the program. I could ignore the updates, or they could be installed automatically, but those are far from ideal solution. I got to thinking, if the program has to restart, why not install the updates as the session that detected the updates is closed? Letting them run in the background after I've finished my browsing/email session means that I'm not waiting for the updates to process before I can start checking email or doing that internet task before I get distracted and forget about it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Let Firefox discover updates for installed plug-ins 2. Close browser 3. Start new browser session Actual Results: Upon starting a new browser session, there's a prompt to install update. Firefox operation is halted until either I ignore the updates or choose to install them. Expected Results: Displayed the update dialog before closing the browser, and performed them while running in the background. I assumed this is part of the core because it effects both Firefox and Thunderbird.

You mean add-ons (namely extensions), not plugins.
