User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091221 Firefox/3.5.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Both copy and paste of text via command-V and by mouse menu fail in all situations that I have tried. No particular URL is involved. No extensions are installed (retested with clean profile). Copy and cut do not copy text. Selected text is not copied to the pasteboard, so when switching to another application, any previously-copied text is pasted. Paste within Firefox 3.6 to any of URL bar, search bar, Firebug command line, or textbox fails, regardless of the source of the copied text. Cut (command-X) clears the selection, but does not copy to the system pasteboard. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Case 1: copy failure: 1. select text in other application 2. copy 3. paste to verify that selected text was copied 4. select text in FF 3.6 5. copy 6. select input field in other application 7. paste Case 2: paste failure: 1. select text in another application 2. copy 3. paste to verify that selected text was copied 4. select input field in FF 3.6 5. paste Actual Results: Case 1: Previously selected text pasted. Case 2: No result. Expected Results: Case 1: Expected text selected and copied in FF 3.6 to be inserted into input field of other application. Case 2: Expected FF 3.6 input field contents to change.

Update: Safe mode allows copy & paste. A completely new profile does not allow copy or paste.
Update: Running FF in safe mode allowed subsequent instances to copy & paste. Should have run it under gdb.
I would like to confirm this bug. I am using a clean install of firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 and Mac OS 10.6.3 When trying to copy the URL from the menu bar I select the text to copy, type command-c to copy and then go to paste in any other application and nothing pastes. Been dealing with it for months. Please fix!
Bug Confirmed: using windows 7 home. firefox 3.6.6, when trying to copy and paste using control key,(CTRL + C, CTRL + V) the function fails, 1.Go to www.google.com 2.copy "Google.co.in offered in" under the search box,by selecting the text and using right click --> "COPY". 3. Try pasting using CTRL + V, in the google search box. 4. Result: only "V" will appear, instead of "Google.co.in offered in" 5. Now try paste, using right click --> "PASTE" 6. Results: "Google.co.in offered in" would be pasted in the search box. This indicates function fails: where as it works in IE 8. restarting the browser resolves the issue temporarily.
This behavior reappeared on 2011-02-07 after OS X system update. New instances of Firefox started before reboot showed copy/paste failure. After reboot, all Firefox instances show copy/paste failure. Safe mode allows copy and paste to work. Behavior the same in FF 3.6.13 and FF 4.0b10. Can't get FF 3.6 or 4.0b10 to run under gdb. Both give: "Reading symbols for shared libraries +++++++.... done Program exited with code 06." with any args set in gdb.
Summary: Copy and paste fail with Firefox 3.6 on Mac OS X → Copy and paste fail with Firefox 3.6 and 4.0 on Mac OS X
Version: 3.6 Branch → unspecified
I found the immediate cause of the copy/paste failure to be the use of 'nohup', but I do not know the ultimate cause. I have both Firefox 3.6 and 4.0 installed as "Firefox-3.6.app" and "Firefox-4.0.app", and start them with scripts that relink my local Firefox directories and then start the appropriate 'firefox-bin' executable with '-no-remote -profilemanager' options. If the executable is called with 'nohup' *and* the application directory was renamed from "Firefox.app" to "Firefox-v.r.app", copy and paste fail. If either one of those two conditions does not apply, then all is OK. This is not the same problem that I originally reported, because I did not have different versions installed then.
