The version of gas that we use has a bug that causes miscompilation: see bug 544697.

is this still desired?  which version of binutils do you need?  Is it in the maemo.org repository?

Yes, this is still desired.

The version of gas that I have doesn't have the problem, and apparently 2.19 doesn't have the problem. I believe scratchbox should have a newer version but I'm not certain. What version do we currently have?
