Adding neilio and David. Neilio has mentioned that he'd like to revamp the home/landing page to incorporate educational elements (such as a screencast) and simplified messaging for the app. David will be working on messaging for the app from a marketing perspective, and I'd like to start work on capturing high-level ideas for what the home/landing page should look like.

Dropping neilio's files in as attachments, needs to slide over to chowse's plate soon?

New mock-ups available: http://people.mozilla.com/~chowse/drop/byob/v1/front-page.png David: First, apologies for taking so long to get these ready. Second, we need to discuss how to integrate messaging and visual assets to design (or, if unavailable, what to cut.) Here's what we need to establish for this page: - The intro/overview video. What size is it? What's its poster frame? Should it be played in-place or in a lightbox? - The 'Features' box. How many features should we list (I have designs that can accomodate 3-6)? What can we use for the images (we need thumbnails and large versions)? If screenshots are a problem, can we use icons or bullets? - The 'Target Audiences' box. How many audiences do we want to list (I envisioned three: organizations, social/interest circles, and personal)? How much copy do we want to use for each? If we need more, can we split it off on a separate page? - The 'Testiomnial' box. How much space do we need for quotes? Do we have photos or logos to accompany them? Do we need a separate page (e.g. a case study page) to provide more detail? - The 'Browser Gallery' block. Do browser builds have icons? Can we generate our own (e.g. identicons), or the author's avatar (if they have one)? Do we have enough (or expect to have enough) to show a sampling? - The 'Featured Browser' box. This requires a choice of browser, some copy, and an icon (which doesn't have to come from the system). Do we want to have multiple featured browsers and rotate between them?
FWIW: We really need to have this finalized by end of week (6/18), or mid next week at the latest, in order for me to implement in time for launch at end of Q2 (6/30). If we don't have finalized content for all areas of this mockup in time, I could implement a scaled back version. That is: Only show the sections "What browsers are people making?" and "What can this do for me?", and the text at the top could expand across the page. All other sections would push to (hopefully early) Q3. A few other notes / questions: * We don't have icons for browsers or avatars for users. If we want to add icon/avatar image upload as a feature, I'd suggest we look at it for Q3. In lieu of that, do we want to use a "globe" icon for each, or is there another scheme that works? * If we want to add a Featured Browser selection as an admin panel feature, I'd push it to Q3. * Do we have testimonials? Will they change often? ie. Can I hardcode them into the page (easy for Q2), or should they be a dynamic feature with an admin panel (push to Q3)? * Do we have content for a FAQ page? (Should probably file a bug to create that)
The plan is to have pretty much everything finalized for this week. we chatted last week on what was required, and David and I are working on finishing up content with the aim to have pretty much everything finished by the end of this week. For the other points: * icons/avatars are out of scope for this rev * I think the featured panel would be hard-coded for this rev; I didn't think we'd be adding it as web-administratable (my new word invention for monday) this quarter, so agree it's a push. please confirm if a hard-code is ok. * no testimonials yet. we talked about it last week, and I asked chowse to design with it in mind, but that it'd be awfully hard to get something in place with the time we have left. * I will post FAQ in a bug today; something I should have done a considerable time ago. :)
Looks like the launch of your redesign is coming up soon. Regardless, we should talk about how to work this site so it's in sync with the other Firefox sites...mozilla.com, SUMO and AMO are all being redesigned to have the same look (timing is this fall). Would be awesome to get BYOB in that same group when we can.
@ Slater: Would love your take on copy here. I've attached Chris's latest mockup with some copy suggestions, but would love your take on messaging. The copy should focus on persuading organizations to give BYOB a try (vs. convincing Joe consumer to pick out a BYOB that he might like). The old mockup (located here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/File:Homepage.pdf) has some copy as well for reference. We want to have copy settled by end of this week. If there are specific graphical elements we should be using for now, let us know. We're using a look that's pretty close in terms of color palette and structure as current Mozilla websites (AMO, Personas, Moz.com).
Hey guys. I probably won't be able to get to this by end of week...can I weigh in over the weekend or early next? I'd also like to talk about your longer term design plans so we can get this site in sync with the rest of the Firefox ones. Who should I follow up with about that?
Still have work to do, and will get better styles from chowse, but I took a stab at shuffling the page around per mocks in r69505.
r69797 adds the "Who is using" box and some additional images. Still needs assets for: * intro video * "who is using" content * images for "how can BYOB benefit your organization"
I'll have intro video ready this eve. whee. I have a request in to slater to give a quick once-over, and will update the copy here shortly thereafter. chowse: any updates on imagery?
r69802 adds a placeholder video for good measure, assuming it won't be entirely unlike what we have for the Fx feature tour (ie. ogv and mp4 encoded versions)
