When you receive a signed email, it will include at least one certificate, namely the one the sender used to sign the email. But the message might include other certs also, including the cert chain for that signing cert, a separate encryption cert, and perhaps the certs of other people.
A Thunderbird user should be able to see all of those certs on demand in the UI.
