Exactly the same bug on my HTC Desire (network: SFR (france)), with fennec 4.0b2 and 4.0b3: when in 3G, most of the webpages I try to load appear completely blank (after the loading icon has turned for a few seconds). In fact, the pages in https seem to load in 3G, but not the pages in http.

Sounds like SFR is doing some packet inspection and dropping fennec packets. How large is this provider? Tristan or Kev any thoughts on how to proceed?

SFR is the 2nd french mobile provider (the first one is Orange, and both are quite close). It is the french Vodaphone (so pretty large). However, I found a way to circumvent the problem: either by adding a config "general.useragent.override = Firefox Mobile / 4.0" or by using the "Phony" add-on and selecting the "Android" agent (NOT the "default" agent). But I think that not everyone using Android over SFR is able or willing to make these kinds of manipulations. The easiest way to solve this problem would probably to ship Fennec with a proper useragent by default.

(In reply to comment #5) > But I think that not everyone using Android over SFR is able or willing to make > these kinds of manipulations. The easiest way to solve this problem would > probably to ship Fennec with a proper useragent by default. Fennec's current user agent is proper and correct. Sounds like SFR shouldn't be sniffing user agents _or_ should update it's method of sniffing.

ok, sorry... since phony solved the issue I assumed that it was a problem of identifying the agent. I do not know what SFR filters/checks when one surfs on its 3G network...

Confirming :-( (now that explains issues I often have with Fennec...) I'm an SFR subscriber using Fennec on an TC Desire HD running Android 2.2. On Wifi, pages display properly. With Wifi turned off - which means that 3G/Edge is used in place - Web pages are blank. SFR is the #2 network in France, very close to the #1, which is Orange. This is a very serious issue.

Hello, I would just like to add that there is *no such filter* for Fennec / Firefox Mobile beta on the N900. I successfully loaded multiple web pages on 3G with SFR from my N900 a few seconds ago.

For what it's worth, I can confirm this is linked to User-Agent sniffing on the SFR network; changing the user-agent header (e.g. with Phony) allows to use Fennec on the SFR network.

The "Fennec" string in the user-agent is being whitelisted, should be OK shortly. FYI, every user-agent containing "Mobile" is whitelisted as well, so there should be no impact if the current user-agent with Fennec/xxx is changed to Firefox Mobile/xxx

Thanks a bunch to Mathieu for helping SFR fix this quickly. I owe you one!

It looks like SFR has now whitelisted Fennec (just tried with Fennec/4.0b5pre 20110127). Can someone please confirm so that I can close this bug?

Changed Summary so that SFR is mentionned.
Summary: No page loading when using 3G connection ; wifi works → No page loading when using SFR's (France) 3G connection ; wifi works

Yes, it seems to work now: I have removed the "Phony" add-on and I can still connect to the internet via 3G. Thanks all.

Marked as RESOLVED FIXED, since that SFR is not blocking Fennec anymore (confirmed by 2 people). Yay!

With the duplicate just want to double check that this is still working before verifying the bug.

Haven't experienced the issue since then. So I'd leave this marked as RESOLVED FIXED.
