Details

From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; m18) Gecko/20000929 BuildID: 2000092908 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. in MailNews, press the "New Mail" button 2. be quick: type a few chars while the window is firing up Actual Results: The typed text appears in the message body, although the cursor sits in the "To:" field. Expected Results: The typed text should appear in the "To:" field, as this is the place where the cursor sits.
Confirmed. This is a problem on all Platforms I think. Tested with Mozilla trunk builds on NT4 and MacOS9. It is not protocol dependent. THe message pane gets focus first and then focus is moved to the addressfield. If you are typing before the focus shifts it will drop your characters into the message area.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
We need to lock all the text field and the message body until the window is ready...

See also bug 62452. That bug is nsbeta1+ and I think it has a better solution (although I'm not familiar with the code).
This is a bug about the same problem, but with another approach to the bug. Please file all your comments in the other bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 62452 ***
