Hey guys. browserchoice.eu is now live and we've received some feedback from people who have already seen it. I wanted to pass it to you so that you can have a look and see if you'd like to make any changes. If so, we have until March 9 to give the new string to Microsoft.

Current:
"Sinu veebiturvalisus on Firefoxi peamine prioriteet. Firefox on tasuta, ei võta üle sinu arvutit ega ohusta privaatsust."

Suggestion:
"Sinu veebiturvalisus on Firefoxile kõige tähtsam. Firefox on tasuta ja aitab sul jõuda parima tulemuseni veebikeskkonnas."

Ah, yes, that's the one from local linux forum I have open in a tab ;). I was wondering originally why some countries got this one and others the other one to localize but right now I don't have a strong preference any more. I think both are good.

If it is going to be changed though, wouldn't "turvalisus veebis" be simpler and yet have the same meaning as "veebiturvalisus"? (And yes, this affects the part that isn't proposed to change but if we're already considering changes then we can also consider this one, right?)

Otto, I see you changed the text to bwe translated: was this deliberate, or did you just translatw the English text?  We have 2 versions, one used more in central europe, one more in the west. I am fine to change if this is a preference, but wanted to understand the reasoning.

The old version reads "Firefox is free and doesn't take over your computer or endanger your privacy.". That's a negative reason (i.e. what we don't do). I think it's better to focus on the positive and provide a positive reason hence "Firefox is fee and helps you achieve the best results in the web environment." (literal translation).

I don't know why it was thought that an appeal to fear would work better in Estonia (or "central" Europe in general), I don't have the impression that fear is a big factor here, opportunity for improvement on the other hand does have appeal, or at least this is how it appears to me.

Hi,

The split was not really central / western Europe, apologies for the shorthand there (entered update on a phone).  The reasoning was based on market research and the performance of different messages in different markets and the split is actually based on penetration levels of Linux, Firefox, MacOS etc.  Generally, where Linux and Firefox penetration is higher (e.g. Germany), people tend to have more awareness of spyware, system changes and privacy issues.  The Dutch, on the other hand, have relatively little interest in privacy (the lowest we identified), and very high levels of Mac OS penetration. 

Anyway: you know the market first hand and I am very happy to go with your recommendation.  The differences are marginal, and let's try this text.  Worst case, we can change again in a month's time  :)

To be really clear, as you reversed the order:

Current:

Firefox is free, and won't take over your computer or compromise your privacy."

Suggestion:
"Sinu veebiturvalisus on Firefoxile kõige tähtsam. Firefox on tasuta ja aitab
sul jõuda parima tulemuseni veebikeskkonnas."

"Your online security is Firefox's top priority. Firefox is free, and made to
help you get the most out of the web."

Besides that change though, I understood that "prioriteet" is not a real Estonian word (more of a loan word) so in both cases, I'd suggest to use the first part "Sinu veebiturvalisus on Firefoxile kõige tähtsam."

Interesting about the market research. It's true that Firefox uptake is already quite high here. However I still don't really know why, I don't think privacy and web safety concerns are really higher, I was inclined to believe that it has more to do with an easier attitude towards embracing change. But I am just speculating, as I obviously didn't do a market study myself.
