Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
"Sort By Name" from the Library window, "Show Columns/Sort" Menu button/drop down, does not work. It sorts the bookmarks in the Library window, but the changes are not reflected in the actual bookmarks. I have a workaround listed in Additional information.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
I have my Personal Bookmarks folder located in the Bookmarks Toolbar.
1) Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks
2) Left Column of the Library window, expand Bookmarks Toolbar
3) Select a folder with (unsorted) subdirectories, in my case my Personal Bookmarks with a weeks worth of unsorted new bookmarks.
4) Click on "Show Columns/Sort" Menu Button.
5) highlight Sort, Sort Dropdown menu is displayed (a checkmark on "Unsorted" should be the current setting - this is correct if new bookmarks have been added). Select "Sort by Name". Items will be sorted in the Library window, but NOT as they appear in the Firefox Toolbar (in my case my Personal Bookmarks and newly added subdirectories, they are not sorted as they appear to be in the Library window).
Actual Results:
The sort effects the bookmarks/directories displayed in the Library window, but NOT in the actual bookmarks displayed via the Firefox Toolbar/User Interface.
Expected Results:
When I select my bookmarks from the toolbar, they should be sorted, but they are not.
This Step DOES WORK:
Instead of choosing "Sort By Name" from the Library Sort menu button, do the following.
1) Select the Top Directory of target bookmarks to be sorted in the left column, of the Library window.
2) Ctrl + Tap (Macbook Pro with trackpad) = to I assume right mouse click, on that top directory in the left hand column. In my case "My Personal Bookmarks" which I have as a subdirectory of Bookmarks Toolbar.
3) Select "Sort by Name" - this does the trick. Your bookmarks as they appear when you select them from Firefox Toolbar will now be sorted.
In Summary:
"Sort By Name" appears to work in the Library window, but the changes are not reflected in the actual bookmarks the user selects from the Firefox Toolbar. Right mouse click or Ctrl + Tap (Macbook Pro trackpad) on the top directory of target bookmarks will set the sort by name in both the Library window and the actual bookmarks displayed in the Firefox Toolbar interface.
