Our two methods of garnering information from our userbase is via the Report Broken Website and Submit Feedback options. Submit Feedback is only available through a linked-through webpage (feedback.mozilla.org) from our product pages and I'd love to get the system supported within the browser UI for users in the Beta program to talk back to about the browser they're using as they test/explore it.

Whatever approach is used, it would be very useful to add a keyword with the user agent version somewhere in the feedback comment so that we can easily keep track of comments per version. It might be simple enough that we could start doing that now with some tweaks to the feedback page.

Specs for Add-on work on the first phase:

1. create two navigation toolbar icons
2. populate them to the right of the search bar
3. on click, have them send a user to specific urls post the product, version, locale and platform (or build id on the whole) to hidden field(s) on those submission pages.

Here's an extension I cobbled together that does this. The URLs can be configured with the "extensions.mozreporterbuttons.*" preferences.

Just tried it out and I like what it does. The buttons are unobtrusive and the just call the happy/sad pages with UA and URL as a GET parameter. r+.

Of course, we'll need to tweak this a little further down the road (for example, different URLs, and I also think for the positive feedback we don't feed the current URL in), but for now it looks great.
