expected results:
* the width of the graph area should be fixed
* the graph points should be at fixed locations
* the legend can wrap labels to achieve fixed width, or the legend could grow independently of the graph

actual results:
* the legend in the second chart is much wider than the legend in the first chart
* the graph in the second chart is much narrower than the graph in the first chart
* it's hard to usefully compare them because the time points aren't synchronized
