Thank you for your contribution! I have reviewed and edited the article. Unfortunately, we cannot use material from the easy-email article unless the owner of that site gives us permission. Could you retake the screenshots in the sections "Unpack Thunderbird" and "Create a menu item to start Thunderbird" please? (I will rework the text before making the article live.) Thanks again!

I think the main target of this piece is Ubuntu users.

Anyway, I offered to contribute some text for installation on OpenSUSE - and here it is:

I suggest this be a separate page rather than complicate the Ubuntu one. 

I would have thought that for newbies Mint was probably the next most common distro after Ubuntu.

Sorry but I can't because I use a french release of Ubuntu, so these image will be in french instead of English, which would be confusing... However, you are right, some images need to be taken again because they are not in accordance with the text :-(
Anybody to publish the article? Whearas it has some imperfections, it is enough good to be publicated I think.

apologies for the delay, jenzed is away, i am going to take a look at getting this out this week
Roland , maybe you want some feedback from the people packaging linux on the distributions.
Please, Ludovic, Roland, this article has now been written since 2 months, isn't it time to publish it? It would not prevent further changes in the future, but at least can be used has a reference and allow localization (I am volunteer for French localization, has you can guess...).
It is quite disturbing to see that a contribution take so much time to be taken into account and has very little feedback :-(

I would appreciate if you all had a look at the version I have put together:

Some points:
i) the version, as I got it in my hands, had way too much images. If it takes 10 graphics to install something on Ubuntu, then the application is doomed. 
ii) I intended to add the OpenSUSE installation, but my private installation bucks up on me. I need some help / somebody else's experience on that. 
iii) I added a URL for the Mac installation
iv) I eliminated the Ubuntumozilla paragraph. Looked to me like some hack out of the release and installation problems. 

Give me your 2 cents here. And if somebody can help me get the OpenSUSE installation straight I would appreciate. While I do not think bugzilla is the place to do this kind of discussions, I would stick to it for now.

Maybe it would make sense to have a separate OneSUSE page, as already suggested but then there's not that much left. Plus the Terminal material sticks out as a sore thumb. 

Or include the material by Dave in this same page.
As the developer packaging Thunderbird for openSUSE I refined the installation instructions for that now.
(I needed to stay away from the KDE menu section as I have no real idea about KDE.)
On OpenSuSE: I think you should 90% target Ubuntu users - I rarely see any OpenSuSE uses on GetSatisfaction. Have a separate page with just a few links to OpenSuSE's site such as I gave in my piece- eg

I think the stuff I did is too detailed and hard to maintain. And it's not even comprehensive - some folk prefer CLI, some use Gnome, ...

Why not just make use of {SHOWFOR(os=Ubuntu)}, {SHOWFOR(os=Suse)}, {SHOWFOR(os=Other Linux distribution...)}? It would allow to keep 1 article for Linux installation and just display the information needed by any user.
re "why not just make use of": afaik there's only Windows,Mac,Linux available for SHOWFOR and pretty much exclusively used for short forks like options vs Preferences on MAC.

OK sorry, I was thinking that it could be possible to use any name instead here...

Last point, for the localization of Thunderbird, there is just another package to install, call for instance "thunderbird-locale-fr" for French local. So everything could be done into the Software Center, no need to use terminal here. Do you agree that I update the article consequently?
I have nothing against it, as - to be honest - this Terminal part sticks out as a sore thumb.
Change done.
I think terminal is great for some advanced Linux user so it has is place in this article.

Sorry smo, but there is a big issue with your last edition (and suppression of the terminal part): Thunderbird cannot be updated because user need to have administration right in order to update a program located in "/opt" folder.
This is a very important point that you should keep in the article!
