using WinNT build id 2000101008 in IMAP mail, somehow I got a message in a state where I couldn't delete it. I have no idea how. I was sorting by thread, it was the last message in that thread, I may have deleted earlier messages in the thread before it became undeletable. I selected it, clicked delete, nothing happened. I tried scrolling, re-selecting, and hit delete again. I may have done this several times. Finally, I closed the mail application and restarted it. I *think* (hard to be certain) that several messages were deleted from my inbox that I did *not* delete. I'm guessing that every time I pressed the del key with this undeletable message selected, a different message was getting deleted.
suggesting P1, rtm. Severe unrecoverable data loss. User may not know that messages were deleted, and after closing the mail app undo will not work on next invocation. Sorry for the vagueness of the steps to reproduce. I am trying to figure out a reliable way to get this to happen without losing all my critical messages.

buster, I believe you have hit some of the tree paint bugs. It's possible to select messages other than what it shows you after certain infrequent operations such as scrolling :-( The way to tell if this is happening to you is to resize the window when you get into this state. The resize causes it to paint the actual reality and then you'll see that the message you've highlighted is not the one you thought. Those message you "lost" were due to the tree fooling you about which message was actually selected. This stuff is supposed to all be fixed on the next branch build since evaughn checked in 54049 yesterday. If you agree with my analysis, please mark this a dup of 54049.

I have not been able to reproduce this, though it's hard for me to try because I rely heavily on my mail. I suspect selmer's analysis is correct. cc-ing hyatt just in case this rings any bells for him.
