I updated from SM1.1.7 and imported all my mail settings. I receive an error message about authentification when I try to use SM 2.0.4 SMTP. SM 1.1.7 continues to send SMTP without any problems. Google Mail, which does use SSL, works fine on SM 2.0.4.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compose mail
2. Send
3.
Actual Results:
Error message received in pop-up window: "Sending of message failed. An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server smtp.localmailserver.com

It does not support authentication (SMTP-AUTH) but you have chosen to use authentification. Uncheck "Use name and password" for that server or contact your service provider."

I have no SMTP-AUTH set for my local accounts. However, Google mail works fine and uses SSL.

Expected Results:
Mail should have been sent.

Allowed me to use SMTP with local servers. I can use SMTP with local servers if I revert to SM 1.1.7.

I was using default theme.
Please recheck your SMTP settings. (edit\mail&news Account Settings\Outgoing server\ )

I did that. SM 1.1.7 has the same settings as 2.0.4 and works with both local servers and Google Mail which latter requires SSL. SM 2.0.4 doesn't work with local servers but works with Google Mail. Seems to me that 2.0.4 is sending secure authentication to local servers when it's set not to send anything.
It makes zero difference under which IP your server is reachable.
The settings in that area changed AFAIK.

Should your SMTP server be used without sending login data or should it send your login data only unencrypted ?

Yes, it absolutely works. In Sea Monkey, go to Account Settings>Outgoing Server>Edit and then uncheck the "Use user name and password" box. However, it's beyond me why this had to be changed between one version of SM and another. Thank you for your assistance.
