No results are produced. The screen doesn't change. Changing the search engine doesn't resolve the issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Type in a item you would like to search for. 2.Hit enter on your keyboard or select the magnifying glass icon in the search box. 3. Actual Results: Nothing happens. Expected Results: The result should be a page that displays the results of your chosen search.
Does it also happen in Safe Mode (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe Mode)? If not please check which extension is causing this problem by deactivating them step by step.

Second update: I started Firefox in safe mode and the problem occurs in safe mode as well.
Are any errors visible in the Error Console, which is accessible under Tools?
I checked the Error Console and there are at least 50 errors visible.
Clear those errors and do the steps given in comment 1. C&P those errors here.

I cleared the error console and I exited from Firefox. I then opened Firefox in safe mode and the problem is still present.
What search engine are you using?

That did it Henrik. The search toolbar now works. I am able to search.

Thanks Anthonio for sending me the formhistory.sqlite file. After checking its integrity I got a lot of errors (http://pastebin.mozilla.org/724847). There is no way to restore its content. Can you remember if you had a crash or that something else happened right before you weren't able to use the search anymore?
seeing the above errors, looks like most (at least places.sqlite and formhistory.sqlite, but i can't exclude others) sqlite dbs are broken on your system. This is usually caused by either: - having profile on a network disk with a bogus filesystem - having some serious health issue on your hard disk or the filesystem You should really check your disk health, run a checkdisk from Windows, and create a new profile.

I had this problem myself. Removing formhistory.sqlite solved it. (Using Firefox 14.0.1.) Type or paste about:support into you address bar. In the Application Basics table, click the Show Folder button in the Profile Folder row. In the folder that opens, remove (but don't delete) formhistory.sqlite.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever known the source of the original corruption here, and formhistory does have corruption handling. So I think I'll close this out. If we find new issues we can track them in new bugs.
