at the bottom, of the main page of slashdot, there is a bar. it is the file
images.slashdot.org/greendot.gif set at 80% screen width. it flashes on and off
and adds 40kbps according to my network monitor.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
go to www.slashdot.org
scroll to the bottom
watch it flash.

Actual Results:  the bar flashed and ate up bandwidth.

Expected Results:  load the image once and only once.

I'm not seeing this at all on slashdot. Page loads to completion and network
activity ceases.

it does _not_ occur on my box at work. That box is running the M18 without
MathML and SVG and this one (where it does occur) is running M18 with MathML.
The non MathML (build 2000101015) does it as well on this box, but sometimes I
have to reload the page.
