As talked in the meeting today the Mac Pros which have been requested on bug 566795 seem to have been delivered. We now have to setup the machine to get all the required VM's running. So here is list of VMs we would like to run in parallel and which are os'es which are supported by Fusion: * Win 7 64-bit * Win Vista 64-bit * Win XP 64-bit * Ubuntu 10.4 64-bit Al will take care of the initial setup while I will setup the Mozmill stuff afterward.
I have got the machines running and connected to the network. I'm running software updates right now. Opened bug 569757 to get them assigned permanent IP addresses and names in the domain. The machines are QA-Horus and QA-Set.
VMware Fusion 3.1 is installed on both boxes now. I did not repartition the drive. I figured that this is a good time to reexamine whether we need both 10.5 and 10.6 on these boxes and whether we need a separate data partition. I'm inclined to do everything in 10.6 unless there is a good reason to use 10.5.
Al, I would love to have a data partition. That makes things easier to handle. I don't care about the second system partition. We should do everything under 10.6. I would second that.
Al, whenever you are ready please re-assign that bug to me.
It's ready. Data is copied and VMs are all working (the current ones).

Thanks Al. Have you already labeled the boxes? If not please do so and add them to our list of QALab boxes. Thanks. I will setup everything tomorrow.

The machines were labeled the first day...
I have setup the daily test-runs on qa-horus for the following OS: * OS X 10.6 (host) * Windows 2000 * Windows XP * Windows Vista * Windows 7 * Windows 7 (64bit) I will have to watch the machine when those test-runs get executed in the next days to get an impression about its utilization. Al, can you please setup qa-set for the release testing work? Please use fresh VM's from fs. Thanks.

I know we can offload some daily test runs to the second machine, but I would rather see the P1 platforms on the daily-test run machine with other OSes running on the second machine. Running WinXP, Vista, Win7, Linux and OSX 10.6 (all 32-bit) should be our primary, default set running on the main machine. We can consider adding P2 (Windows 2000, 64-bit OSes, etc) to this machine if the resources are available. Otherwise, that's what we have the second machine for. In the configuration you have set up, we won't get daily test runs for Linux -- an oversight in my opinion. > I will have to watch the machine when those test-runs get executed in the next > days to get an impression about its utilization. > > Al, can you please setup qa-set for the release testing work? Why fresh VMs for qa-set? I wish you had told me this before I went to the trouble of getting the existing VMs working. That time was wasted if we're not using them.
(In reply to comment #9) > Why is Linux not included in this primary list of daily test runs? I know we Sorry, just missed to add Ubuntu. It's also running on that machine. Oh, you already did that. Then lets keep it as it is. I will have to remove all the cronjobs from each of the machines then and check if everything works.
All of the existing qa-mozmill VMs were migrated over and the Win 7 x64 VM was added yesterday.
Yesterday I have finished the setup routine on both boxes. Let us watch how the cpu utilitization looks like when all the tests are run in parallel to get an impression if we have to move the 64-bit Win7 VM from Horus to Set. I will mark this bug as fixed.
