With AOM integrated into tab, I believe that download manager will soon be dealt with too. But apart from that, users should be able to see their download progress clearly and without the need to be in Firefox to be able to see them.
I can see now Firefox has made good use of Windows 7's superbar:

So for Mac OS, can you add an indicator to Dock icon? Google itself has a pretty nicely done implementation for Chrome:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download any file.
Actual Results:
If I don't leave the download manager open or till downloads finish, I won't be able to easily see what their progress are.
Expected Results:
Ask Chrome!
