Using oct20 mn6 commercial branch build, win2000
When using a lab machine today, I saw a case where we don't add the Personal
Address Book to a profile. I installed 6.0 on a machine which had 4.7 and only
one/default profile which had never setup mail/news info and therefore had no
PAB. When I installed 6.0, it automigrated the account. I then accessed mail and
completed the account setup wizard. I went to add someone to the PAB and saw
there wasn't one, the act of adding to address book didn't force the PAB into
existance.
Will give a try at recreating this... not sure if it must be a one/default
profile 4.x, as it didn't seem to happen when I just added a new profile where I
didn't access mail in 4.x.
Already talked to Seth about this, we want to (in the future) see if there would
be another way of hitting a case like this.
This just happened to me converting from NS 4.77 to Moz 0.9.1, the personal
address book was not converted.

Laurel, can you still reproduce this?
Keywords: nsbeta1
Target Milestone: mozilla0.9.9 → ---
Apparently this is now easier to reproduce than when I reported the bug -- at
that 6.0 time I stated I didn't see it when using an added/new profile to 4.x
which didn't use mail then migrating. Currently, it does indeed happen on a new
4.x profile which didn't use mail, migrated to today's commercial trunk.

Discussed at 2/19/02 bug meeting w/ Eng/PjctMg/Marketing: decided to move to
1.2, and change nsbeta+ to nsbeta-
Using Mozilla Build ID: 2002052918, Mac OS X 10.1
Migrated profile from Netscape 4.7, Mac OS 9
Something's wrong with the address book in the Mozilla profile. It's there,
but Mozilla isn't reading it. ?
The migration seemed to go okay. No reported errors. Mail files are okay.
Looking at the profile folder, it looks like the address book is there. UNIX
"diff" shows that the files are identical to the those in the old Netscape 4.7
profile. But no addresses appear in the Mozilla GUI. Am I missing something?

In recent trunk builds I can't reproduce this on Mac 10.1.3 or WinMe.
Laurel, can you reproduce?

Ninoschka, I see this with my winxp on profiles that are not automigrated but
manually selected for migration. I thought I saw it on Mac OSX too, I will
check and update. Note: the address book did not have lists so that wasn't a
factor.

Esther is correct, the problem still occurs with a manual migration.
Trunk build 2002-12-17: WinMe
In 4.7 I had a Personal address book w/cards and a user defined address book
w/cards (i.e. AB1). After migrating, the Personal Address Book, Collected
Address Book and the AB1 address books were present but No cards appeared.
Trunk build 2002-12-27: WinMe
Using the same 4.7 profile the behavior has regressed even with the 12/17/02
build. Now after a manual migration I see the Personal Address Book, Collected
Address Book but I do Not see cards and the AB1 address book is missing.
Changing the summary from "Case where automigrated profile gets no Personal
Address Book."to "Profile migration gets no cards or user defined address books"
Reassigning this bug to nbaca since it's specific to the address book.
QA Contact: laurel → nbaca
Summary: Case where automigrated profile gets no Personal Address Book. → Profile migration gets no cards or user defined address books

keep in mind, mozilla can't migrated (or import) 4.x na2 files.
it never has, because the code that reads the na2 format is closed source.
this bug should be moved to bugscape.
for those who have seen it after 8/28 (on the trunk), you are really seeing
http://bugscape.mcom.com/show_bug.cgi?id=21642, which is a regresion caused by
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15424
as far as the original problem, if the issue is
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57460#c4
"Apparently this is now easier to reproduce than when I reported the bug -- at
that 6.0 time I stated I didn't see it when using an added/new profile to 4.x

then that should be nsbeta1-.
but the regression (http://bugscape.mcom.com/show_bug.cgi?id=21642) is nsbeta1+.
nbaca, do you have the power to move this to bugscape?
