User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100628 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.6 Build Identifier: My workflow is usually to search for a bug before filing it, but it's kind of annoying, because I have to do the following: 1. Go to the advanced search form 2. Filter to the program 3. Skim through some bug subjects 4. See that my bug hasn't been filed 5. Click the "New" button 6. Filter to the program (again) <-- This step should be eliminated 7. File the bug. It seems like if I've filtered already to a given program, then I shouldn't have to do it a second time to file the bug. Reproducible: Always
At the bottom of the buglist, you have a link "File a new bug in the Foo product" exactly for this purpose.

Wow. I have been filing bugs for years, and never noticed that. It's after the iCal, and the CSV, and about 10 other, larger links, as well as about 4 large buttons. Is there a reason not to make the New button have the same function? I think it would be a simple thing to implement, with immediate benefits to all bug filers?
@Michael: There's some fair chance that that's not what they're going to want to do, and also it would involve some code complexity for us, since the header is generated by a different piece of code than the body is. However, what we could consider doing is moving the link to the top of the buglist, where it would be more visible. Or putting it both on the top and the bottom of the buglist. If you'd like that, and there's not already a bug filed for it, you're welcome to re-open this one with a new summary or file a new bug.
I see - the header doesn't know what bugs are displayed below...tricky. I don't know if putting it at the top and bottom is a good answer, since there's already way too many links on bugzilla. Moving the link to the top might be a good place to start...

Comment on attachment 616644 [details] [diff] [review] V1 I don't think that duplicating this link at the top of the list is a good idea. If the user is *really* looking at the buglist to see if his bug has already been filed, then he has to go to the end of the list. What we should rather do is to improve how links are displayed at the end of the buglist (it's currently a real mess). For instance, the existing link could be preceded by the text "Couldn't find the bug you were looking for?". This would make the link more visible.

Hi there! I'm new to the community and I'm interested in working on this as my first bug fix.

Is there still an interest in improving the way these links are displayed? Should I discuss with someone what the ideal end result is?

Thanks!

Oh, this bug is 9 years old 🙀 I’m actually going to overhaul the deadly old search results page shortly, so this bug will also be solved in some way. Kelly, do you want to work together?

Although I really appreciate the offer to work together, that sounds like it would be fun, I'm worried about overcommitting myself and might find something smaller to start off with for now. Good luck with the overhaul!

Removing good-first-bug keyword because team does not have bandwidth to mentor at the moment.
