Opening a new window (when one is already open) is pretty slow.
This should be super fast. In Chrome it's nearly instantaneous.

I've got sucky new window perf on a lightly loaded XP machine. (perhaps ~2010-09-29 when I cc:, but I don't really recall)

Yes, it's slow everywhere. New tab is fast, new window is slow.

Also, the new window opens in background, not foreground. Tad annoying

I should have given numbers:
~ 6secs mean open time
ranges 4-20+ seconds
sometimes so bad that windows shows minfield as "not responding"

That should *not* be happening. Try restarting without add-ons (in the Help menu) and see if it's still the case on Firefox 4 betas? If it is, file a new bug, CC me.

That's also not supposed to be happening, obviously. On my computer, new window is 1-2 seconds (which is still way too slow).

update - via process monitor, creating a new window causes every file in my profile to get touched, including all cache files.  After restarting a few times and still being able to reproduce, I disabled my two most addons tree style tab and bugzilla tweaks, restart, couldn't reproduce. reinstall, couldn't reproduce.  WTH. Anyway, for now I'm not seeing the massive slowness.

Is the goal here still to be instanteous? If so, at what target number do we declair victory?

And, given that this bug does not have a testcase, is what bugs should we mark depends on in addition to bug 49141?
