This is a regression from Firefox 4.0 beta 1. This also occurs in web pages (like Facebook's Chat menu), not just in the UI. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open any menu in the Firefox UI. 2. Mouse over an enabled item. Actual Results: Poor look. Expected Results: Good look (same as rest of Windows). This could affect low-vision users severely.
Changing the product to Firefox. I see this issue intermittently on web pages (such as Facebook's Chat menu), but it consistently appears in Firefox's UI. Any input would be appreciated.

Does turning off directwrite affect the behavior?
I am using Windows XP, which does not have DirectWrite. I have not used Firefox 4 on Windows 7 or Vista.
Odd.. What about d3d? There are some antialiasing issues that can cause too.
I just checked the latest nightly, and the issue is gone. Great work, guys. (I don't know who or what fixed it, but it was great anyway.) Marking fixed.

As long as we don't know the real bug #, we mark those bugs as WFM. Thanks for re-checking.
Resolution: FIXED → WORKSFORME
Reopening. This problem still exists on latest nightlies, but only in the Add-ons Manager when software rendering is used. It doesn't make sense for only about:addons to be affected by this, but that seems to be the case.

The text circled in red is quite hard to read.
Summary: White text on dark background hard to read at small sizes → White text on dark background hard to read at small sizes in Add-ons Manager
So it happens with hardware acceleration disabled?
Definitely. Indeed, it *only* happens with acceleration disabled.
This only happens with cleartype enabled in the Windows appearance settings.

anything to do with bug 363861?
(In reply to comment #14) > anything to do with bug 363861? Lets CC Roc who is working on this bug.
This will probably be fixed as a byproduct of Rob's cleartype changes.

Should have been fixed by bug 363861.

Alan, can you please check the latest nightly build if this issue has been solved for you? Thanks.
I'm no longer running Windows XP - I've upgraded to Windows 7, so I can't test anymore. Sorry.
If Bug 611918 is indeed the same as this one, then this is not fixed in the latest minefield (2011.01.09) The cleartype situation has actually gotten worse, now the menus (file, edit, ...) and the page context menu are not using cleartype screen-shots attached

Roc, do we somehow not use Clear Type anymore? Switching between those two modes doesn't show any difference for me. Is this another bug?
Dunno what the story is with menus. The addons manager issue is probably bug 613040.
(In reply to comment #24) > Dunno what the story is with menus. The addons manager issue is probably bug > 613040. So should we better mark it as dupe or dependent on it?
Dependent for now I think

@roc can you please look at Bug 624452
This should be mostly fixed now.
Marking this fixed, if it is not please reopen.
