I wanted to activate Direct2D browser hardware acceleration so I followed the instructions and set  gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled to true and mozilla.widget.render-mode to value 6. With gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled set to true the YouTube (and other) HD videos load slower and during playback they are stuttering and sometimes I've noticed minimal artifacts. Only mozilla.widget.render-mode set to 6 doesn't affect the playback. Also zooming in google maps was stuttering.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. set mozilla.widget.render-mode to value 6
2. set gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled to true
3. Play a hd video or zoom in google maps.
Actual Results:  
Playback of YouTube hd videos was stuttering and the video was loading slower. Zooming and navigation was stuttering in google maps.

Expected Results:  
Smooth playback of hd videos and smooth zooming in google maps.

I have discovered another problem. When scrolling up or down a web page that contains media (flash videos or banners) ex. YouTube, the tab bar and the navigation bar is flickering in white intermittently or it remains white for a limited time but only on the video's or banner's width.

Yes, I have the last driver for my Radeon X1650 pro (CCC 10.2). I have the latest drivers on my PC and the latest plugins for Firefox.

I also saw the flickering YouTube content while scrolling on this system:
- ATI Radeon HD 3800, Driver Date 03/08/2010, Driver Version 8.762.0.0
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b5) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b5

However, the problem did not occur on my other computer:
- NVIDIA Quadro FX 670M, Driver Date 20/03/2009, Version 6.14.11.7471
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b5) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b5

Perhaps an issue with the ATI drivers?

I also see this with a Nvidia card.  Here is my about:support info: http://pastebin.mozilla.org/790275

and no I can't update my drivers because Nvidia doesn't release them for this card and HP is no longer releasing drivers for this card so I'm on the newest ones out there.

I have bug 590568 open for this, it occurs on my Nvidia 7050.

This is bug 532106.

The flickering was probably another bug.

Try the drivers at www.laptopvideo2go.com with a modified inf (although you may lose some stuff specific to your laptop).

It seems like a bunch of issues are tied into this bug, and as comment 14 says, other bugs are already filed on some of these issues. If you still see problems, please file separate bugs!
