User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b4pre) Gecko/20100814 Minefield/4.0b4pre Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b4pre) Gecko/20100814 Minefield/4.0b4pre With d2d enabled on nVidia 8600GT (driver 258.96) opening any YouTube page will freeze minefield for about 10 seconds. (Flash Player 10.1.82.76) Also, it affects Bugzilla pages oddly enough, if d2d enabled, and i have a background tab with Bugzilla open, switching to that tab will freeze minefield, but only for a small duration of about 3 seconds. These are the only sites so far, but I'm not a very adventurous internet-browser... Both freezes trigger windows to throw up its own title-bar/caption, thus leaving me with with no caption buttons when it unfreezes. Tested with a new profile and no plugins as well, d2d disabled = no freezes. enabled = freezes. Its had this behavior for a few weeks,so i turned d2d off. but it was only when d2d was on by default i was reminded of this issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Ensure d2d is enabled 2.Open a YouTube page 3. watch as browser freezes for about 10 seconds. Actual Results: Minefield freezes for about 10 seconds while attempting to display page contents. Windows takes over, and displays the native caption/titlebar. until it thaws, then minefield is left with no caption buttons/window control buttons. Expected Results: No freezing. I have discussed this in the Mozillazine build forums, but this issue seems to be limited to me only, amongst the d2d testers, ATI & nVidia users alike. So it might be a 'me only' situation.....
Still reproducing this issue after buying a new nVidia 9800GT. Ok, just to confirm.... Removed Firefox with revo uninstaller, deleted profile, and install directory. Cleared all Fx related registry entries. Rebooted. Checked dxdiag reports, DX10 enabled, GPUz reports card is running at full capabilities. Installed todays m-c Fx build, no-addons, checked in about:support to ensure hardware acceleration enabled (see above). pasted a YouTube addy into the URLbar, press enter...annnnd Firefox hangs for nearly 15 seconds, and after thawing, loses all titlebar effects (caption buttons, text background blur..etc...) help? :(
This is still a issue with the nightly builds. I don't think its flash related, as if i bookmark a 'screen only' youtube video, for example, http://www.youtube.com/v/f2d6q2oUJeY?version=3 minefield doesn't hang. It only freezes when there is text on the page. I do have about 200 extra non-default fonts installed on my system, as well as the standard ones. could this be related somehow?

Wait... why is this filed against Canvas 2D ? moving to Graphics and CC'ing the Direct2D specialist...

This is strange, your 9800 GT is a pretty good card. Yet I cannot even reproduce this on my GT230M. I don't have any particularly good ideas for things for you to try right now :s.

Fixed! After a bit of effort with procmon (sysInternals), it turns out firefox.exe was calling a non-standard font that i had removed months ago, along with AdobeCS4. 'C:\Windows\Fonts\AdobeKaitiStd-Regular.otf'. Replacing/reinstalling this font back in the font directory has stopped all freezing issues when acceleration is enabled. Procmon capture file was full of calls from Firefox for the font, followed by explorer as it took over the hung firefox process, then plugin container fired up after it thawed and the page loaded. This begs a few questions.... Why does Firefox call this particular non-standard font? (all Fx font settings are default) Why does it only freeze Firefox when hardware acceleration is enabled? Why only certain web pages? i can't believe YouTube and Bugzilla call for 'AdobeKaitiStd-Regular.otf' in the CSS... Happy to proved more info if requested (procmon log is saved should you wish to check it out). I'm just chuffed it works as it should again :D
I'm experiencing almost similar behavior. Firefox with 3D acceleration and gfx.direct2d.disabled set to false is sometimes freezing at startup. Window shows up, GUI .. and the first tab (set to google.com) shows "Connecting..." and Minefield is not responding for 10-20 seconds. After setting first tab to blank, Minefield starts OK, but freezes same way after opening first tab that is loading web page. With gfx.direct2d.disabled set to true there are no problems like this. This is similar behavior with all nightly builds/betas. It is not related to network stability, ping on background or other browsers are always fine. I can confirm similar issues as Rob D. I checked Minefield same way as Rob D did with procmon tool and result was about 20 seconds calling various (existing fonts) over and over again. Firefox freezes with gfx.direct2d.disabled -> false for 10-20 seconds (tab is showing "Connecting..." and in procmon (sysinternals) is in the same time (for 20 seconds)full of calls like this with various fonts... With gfx.direct2d.disabled -> true there are no delays. Better description in my post on this bug report.
I cannot reproduce this issue anymore with a recent Firefox nightly build and directwrite enabled. Please reopen it if it re-occurs.

I suspect this was actually the same issue as Bug 602792
I can confirm that the problem for me was fixed. Thanks..
