User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.11) Gecko/20100713 Thunderbird/3.0.6 It seems when Hotmail service changes something on the server Thunderbird gets confused and starts to redownload all messages already downloaded from my pop3 hotmail account. This behavior happened several times before, so I always keep a current copy of my popstate.dat to restore it back if this incident happened again. I tried that today, but Thunderbird insists to redownload all messages again. For your information, this doesn't happen with Windows Live Mail, also my Gmail account is setup to fetch messages from my hotmail account, and it didn't redownload already downloaded messages anytime before. That's why I think its a bug in thunderbird. Thanks for your support Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce
Forgot to mention this, I am using Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.6 from Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 repositories Thanks
We'll need more data to figure out what is going on. Having a corrupt version of the popstate.dat file would be a good start.

That's what I thought before, and the most common thing I have read after googling... "Corrupted popstate.dat" I took a backup copy since July and kept it in a safe place with MD5SUM. And then restored it back three days ago (when that issue re-occurred). Thunderbird started to download ALL the messages again, not only the difference between July and August... ALL the messages the whole 7000 messages Is it safe to post my both old and current popstate.dat?
The currently generated popstate.dat file
A back up copy of popstate.dat few months ago, this was copied when the state of the account was working and healthy
One more thing to note, this is the first time I try the approach of restoring a backed up copy of popstate.dat, I never tried this before. When this issue happened before I used to wait to redownload ALL messages and remove them using duplicate messages removal addon. Thanks

Mohamed, can you get a pop3 log per https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging please?
