When replying to a message, the quoted text is not wrapped--creating one long
string of text. As a corollary, attempting to reformat the quoted text with
carriage returns causes a double space (ie: two carriage returns) to be entered.

Using build 20001208 - Win98SE, plain text.
The wrapping problem appears to be fixed, however part two of this bug is
still alive.
If you position the cursor between two words on a line and press enter,
two carriage returns are entered instead of one. If you subsequently try
to rejoin the two lines using delete or backspace, you will delete caracters
from either line and the lines won't join.

changing milestone to unknown. It will get changed back when we figure out what
milestone to put this bug in.
Target Milestone: mozilla0.9 → ---
Using today win32 commercial seamonkey build 2001-011108-mtrunk, I am able to
reproduce problem #2 "attempting to reformat the quoted text with
carriage returns causes a double space (ie: two carriage returns) to be
entered."
On problem #1 "When replying to a message, the quoted text is not
wrapped--creating one long string of text" is not reproducible.
Changing title for 2nd problem. Nominating for nsbeta1 because the behavior is
unique to Netscape 6. Communicator 4.7 does not exhibit this problem.

If you hit enter at the left of the quoted text, two spaces are
inserted and the caret doesn't move.
For example,
> abc
> def
If you put the caret at the left of "> def" and hit enter, The result
will be:
> abc
*
> def
<*> shows the caret position.
What is expected is:
> abc
*> def

The patch for bug 69638 fixed this bug. 2001071406/Linux works fine.

I filed a similar bug as bug 102819.

Using branch build 20020430 on linux and winxp I still see the problem with 2
lines for a carriage return with quoted plain text, but another bug 102891 covers
that. We never reproduced the 1st part and don't see the problem now. verified
