I noticed that I no longer see any tooltips in recent trunk nightlies. Everything seems to work fine: popupshowing event fires when I mouse over a button with tooltip, popuphidden event fires when I move the mouse away. So the tooltip is there, I just cannot see it. This is on Windows 7 x64, both with x86 and x64 builds. I identified http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=d5e211bdd793&tochange=656d99ca089c as the regression range. Bug 573229 seems to be the culprit. To test I changed mozilla.widget.render-mode pref from -1 to 0 and all the sudden the tooltips came back. This is an Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T laptop. The graphics chip is Intel GMA 4500MHD, I am using Intel's driver version 8.15.10.1808. Intel is offering a somewhat newer version for installation (8.15.10.2182) which might fix the issue but I've hesitant to install it - a previous update made my display unusable.
Can you set mozilla.widget.render-mode to 6 and gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled to true to see if the regression range goes further back?
