From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; m18) Gecko/20001031
BuildID: 2000103120
I referred to bug 58679, but I think this is a different situation
I execute this command: "mozilla -console -profilemanager" and see the following
in the console:
New location for profile registry and user profile directories is ->
E:\WINNT\Mozilla
If I open
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders" registry key, and change the value "AppData" to
"E:\WINNT\Profiles\Maxim\Application Data", then Mozilla does use the specified
directory, but it does not "want" to use the default value, which contains
cyrillic letters.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
if your default locale is not Russian, you need to set Russian language as
system default locale (Control Panel\Regional Settings Properties\
Regional Settings tab).
1. Open Unicode Character Map. Select Cyrillic subset. Copy to clipboard the
following sequence of Unicode characters: 0414, 0430, 043d, 043d, 044b, 0435
(this is an application data folder name in Russian WinNT)
2. launch regedt32.exe (not regedit.exe, because it does not support Unicode
characters)
3. Open this key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"
4. Double-click on the AppData value
5. Replace "Application Data" (or another name of the application data folder,
if it is different) substring with the copied text and click "OK"
6. Make the same subfolder in the %USERPROFILE% folder
7. launch "mozilla -console -profilemanager"
Actual Results: console shows the following text:
New location for profile registry and user profile directories is ->
<drive>:\WINNT\Mozilla
Expected Results: console shows the following text:
New location for profile registry and user profile directories is ->
<drive>:\WINNT\Profiles\<User Name>\<application data folder name in
russian>\Mozilla

"Application Data" is not localized on Japanese NT. But I think this bug is
related to bug 58679. If data corruption is related to the nsFileSpec to
nsLocalFile conversion, it should be generic to non Latin1 cases.
Reassign to ccarlen@netscape.com.
IQA, please try this with Russian NT.

I can reproduce this on Japanese system, too. I think this is same behavior as
the bug 58679.

It does seem similar to bug 58679. In order to confirm, I would like to get the
Russian locale for my NT4. Is there an online resource (MS) where I can download
additional locales?

You can open Control Panels | Region utility on NT4.
There you will find:
1. Regiona Tab
2. Language/Locale tab
If you set 1 to Russian and also 2 input keyboard to Russian, in either
case you will be prompted for NT4 CD for additional files.
That should do it. I think IS dept also has a Windows Network
server where you can get NT4 CD source files. (Please as IS if you
can mount the network remotely.)

ccarlen@netscape.com, I think you don't need to get the Russian locale. You need
to simulate localized Application Data folder. Try the following:
1. Create a folder with non-ascii characters in the name
2. change the value "AppData" in the
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders" registry key.

Bug 58679 is fixed, and now Mozilla uses correct directory, but the console
displays this directory incorrectly: Cyrillic letters are uppercased and
displayed as two characters:
New location for profile registry and user profile directories is ->
E:\WINNT\Profiles\Maxim\+Ä+À+Í+Í+Û+Å\Mozilla

Check out:
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/profile/resources/content/profileSelection.js#55
See how we're using nsIFile::path instead of unicodePath. Same problem as bug
58679 - just in a different place.

Can somebody with a non-english system try this patch. I'm not sure what the
console is going to do with non-ASCII data, but...

Since bug 58679 is fixed, essentially this is too - except for the output to the
console. So, changing summary.
Summary: Mozilla does not use user profile directory for profile registry and user profile directories in the Russian WinNT → Incorrect output of non-ASCII msgs from profile front end
