I quote:
(17:59) < abillings> setup is manual therefore a colossal pain in the ass.
(18:00) < abillings> to do twice
(18:00) < abillings> if we were really smart, we'd have a networked share
(18:00) < abillings> where we stored all this shit
(18:00) < abillings> for both (or more) boxes
Sounds like a good plan to me. If we had this, we could bring up additional boxes with the same VMs easily and not have to go through the painful manual setup steps.

Can you please give a bit more context? About which setup steps are you talking about?

He's saying rather than custom downloading release or test bits to a partition on multiple machines, we should have a network share that all machines load their bits from (including VMs). This means that we just have to set things up once and go.

Once bug 528064 is fixed I will have to update our scripts, so builds are automatically downloaded based on the version to test. I'm not happy with setting up another layer on another machine. But if you want we can store the downloaded bits somewhere. Otherwise I would just wipe them after the test.
Depends on: 528064

Well, if we're opportunistically downloading them, that fills the need from my point of view.

You will be able to specify a download location when running the general or update script. That would make us flexible.
Christian, what do you think? If you agree we should update the summary. I will be working on this bug next quarter.

The work on the download script is done for releases and release candidates. The script is now available in our automation repository. I will now start with bug 628659 which will allow us to fully automate the whole process. I don't think this bug is useful anymore.
