Currently if you right-click on some icons you're given a menu. If you right click on others you get the option to customise the toolbar. It should be consistent across all the buttons. If you're going to allow right-click on the buttons then you shouldn't show the customisation/menu options.

I think there should be a consistent set of right click options (modifiable by extensions of course) or no default context menu at all.
The latter is probably a better way to deal with it for now (and have the toolbar options only when right clicking on the bar itself).

Given that we do have the ability to create drop down buttons, there isn't a _REQUIREMENT_ for right click. Thus, I'd prefer if we removed it all together and left it for customisation options as per the Navigation Bar.

that's true but the target area is smaller, I've done this for Scriptish and I find the tiny target area for the drop down way too small and I want to hijack right click to force the menu to open.

Perhaps filing a bug to make the area bigger is the best bet?

That sounds like it'd waste space. Also, allowing users to right click anywhere on a menu-button to open the menu sounds far more usable (obviously the target area is larger, but also because it's the behavior that users are used to doing with the old status bar icons/buttons) to me, and I think it would be a greater UX.
