Jakub: Does this happen even in Safe Mode? Go to Help->Restart with Addons Disabled and see if you can reproduce the problem.

When I do this step then Firefox is opened in default layout. Nothing is set as I did it. After exiting of safe mode and opening of Firefox, layout is also set to default. When I update Firefox with nightly build, it is also set to Firefox default layout. This is really annoying bug :-)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100927 Firefox/4.0b7pre Works for me. Also, try creating a new profile and check if you are able to reproduce. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile.

I ran into the same issue. In my case, Write Area (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6147/) add-on was the culprit - well, not exactly culprit, because it does not claim compatibility with 4.0b7pre. But after I disabled it, Firefox now remembers toolbar customization across restarts. I found this by disabling all add-ons and enabling them one-by-one.

Actually I found that when I have installed and enabled add-on PDF Download then layout is not saved and everything is restored to application defaults after restart of application. I need also to test how it will be after installation of new nightly release. So for now I uninstalled PDF Download add-on and it works. I will report how it will be after installation of new night built.

So two night builts installed and add-on PDF Download disabled in both cases and problem disappeared. Now everything is fine. Thread should be closed as problem was cause by problematic add-on. Thank you

I too am having this problem - specifically with the navigation toolbar. other toolbars are not affected as far as I can tell. Not using PDF Download or other extensions - only adblock plus, LastPass, and Test Pilot.

I am currently having this problem with Firefox 4.0.1. I have changed the layout of the toolbars multiple times, and after exiting all instances of Firefox and restarting it, it has reset back to the default layout once again. I have this behaviour replicated on 2 different systems.

I have this issue too, on one PC out of 4. I can't fix it by installing, resetting Firefox, removing localstore.rdf.
