Twitter is not currently setup to provide badges. Only GMail will appear with badges. In fact, only "google.com" based URLs will display badges. What Google URL are you using?
I've put gmail.com in the URL bar to access login page on Nokia N900. In login page for username I've used 2 formats: esqatest1 and/or esqatest1@gmail.com. No badge is present when receiving new mails on this account. I've marked this test as passed on September 29th (I've used Gmail account not twitter account then; same as today)

One last piece of the puzzle: You must have saved the username and password used to log into the GMail account in the Fennec password manager. Fennec badges use the saved username and password to connect to Gmail and get the inbox unread mail count.
I've done that:) Here are the steps I've followed: 1. In Options->Preferences: Allow cookies and Remember passwords are set to "Yes" 2. Type gmail.com in the URL bar. 3. Enter credentials in login page and select "Sign in". 4. When Password Manager is displayed choose "Remember". 5. Wait for the page to load and open an email from the inbox. 6. Visit another page using the same tab, or close the tab and visit the page using a new tab. 7. Receive an email on the account used at step 3. (I've sent the email using another gmail account)
