Now that the Firefox tab bar is a proper toolbar, it would probably make sense to make a "close tab" button that can be dragged onto said toolbar, as a way of replacing the esoteric browser.tabs.closeButtons pref. Obviously, this is really not a big deal at all, but it seems like a sane thing to do.
In light of browser.tabs.closeButtons being removed, let's just close this.
