Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100930 Firefox/4.0b7pre
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100930 Firefox/4.0b7pre

The bookmarks sidebar search performance is extremely slow, making it almost unusable.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Bookmarks sidebar
2.Type anything in the search field
Actual Results:
Takes various seconds to see the results and it frequently freezes while typing.

Expected Results:
See results immediately, like the awesome bar search

The places.sqlite database is optimized and the problem does not occur when searching via awesome bar
Can you please try doing the same search in safe mode? http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
Also, how big is your places.sqlite? Do you have many bookmarks, can you guess if tends, hundreds, thousands?
I forgot to mention that I have already tried safe mode. Problem persists.

I have about 2000 bookmarks, but that has never been a problem. The problem also occurs when searching bookmarks with the bookmarks manager, but it doesn't happen when searching with the awesome bar, which indicates is not a problem directly caused by my bookmarks database size. Nevertheless, a clean profile with a few bookmarks doesn't display the same symptom.

Additionally, if I copy my places.sqlite to a clean profile and open it with FF 3.6, it shows the results immediately. There is no performance degradation. If I copy the same places.sqlite to a clean profile of FF 4.07bpre or 4.0b6, the problem happens again. The problem also persist if I import a backup into a clean profile.
I also tried to sync my bookmarks to a clean profile. Problem persists after the sync.
Can I have some spec about your computer? CPU and memory mostly.
My problem with this bug, is that on my Core 2 Duo the search is instant, and I can't really reproduce, so i'm blindly thinking about possible issues.

I could ask you to send me your bookmarks.json by mail (don't attach it here since it has sensible private data), the one that you say that importing it to a new profile reproduces the problem.
also, which linux distro and version?

I have a Core2 Duo E7500 with 2Gb DDR 2 memory and a nVidia 7300GT. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 32bit with KDE environment. I don't think is a hardware limitation issue, otherwise I would have the same problem with FF 3.6.

I would like to avoid sending my bookmarks. I will make some additional tests to determine if there is any problem in the places.sqlite database.
