With the addition of css for a "connecting" state, bug 596812 pushes the state behind or above the progress bar itself. This results in the connecting state being invisible for Tabs-On-Top and a very faint while gradient moving above the progress line when tabs are on the bottom with dark themes or Aero.
I've tested with Linux Mint and Windows 7, the same effect is observed.

Sunspider 0.9.1 produces this bar consistently.
