This may be a duplicate of Bug 57582. If it is, feel free to move my comments
over there.

Using last night's Linux build (downloaded on the night of 14-November-2000 -
sorry I don't have the build number on-hand right now), I tried to access some
RealPlayer content.

Just clicking on the link to the content braught up the "unknown type" dialog.
it asked me for a path to the helper app. I provided this path
(/usr/local/bin/realplay). The app ran properly.

After it played, I clicked on another real player link. It asked for the path
again. It should have remembered what I typed in last time.

Then, I went to Edit->Preferences->Helper Apps and filled in an entry for the
MIME type (audio/x-pn-realaudio) and pointed it at the same app. Now, when I
click on a real player link, Mozilla exits. There doesn't appear to be a
relevant message on the console when this happens.

Reporter is this still a problem in the latest nightlies?
Marking WORKSFORME due to lack of response. Feel free to reopen this if its
still occuring in the latest nightlies.

I just retested it. Still happening on Linux with build 2001010211.

If it helps, here are the exact steps I use to reproduce this:

1: Delete previous Mozilla installation. Wipe out the entire directory and
unpack the tarball at that location. To prevent any conflicts from old files.

2: Delete the ~/.mozilla directory

3: Run Mozilla. It asks to convert my Netscape 4 profile. The problem occurs
both when I convert my Netscape 4 profile and when I create a new profile.

4: Click on the thumb for the sidebar to collapse it. Resize the window to
something larger than the default size.

5: Go to this URL: http://www.scifi.com/cityofdreams/episode02/episode02.html
then click on the "(listen in Hi Fi)" link to play the presentation.

shrir, is this still a problem? Marking m0.9.1 mscott, Can you meet this
milestone?
Target Milestone: --- → mozilla0.9.1
In response to your e-mail, shrir, yes this bug has not magically fixed itself.
Today's build (2001032708) is still showing this problem, exactly as I've
described.

If you can't reproduce it, then let me know what other information you may
require and I'll tell you.

If you're just asking me because nobody's gotten around to even running my test
case, then I suggest you take the five minutes it takes to run it. Sending me
e-mail every few months asking "is it fixed yet" when nothing has changed is a
waste of my time.

WFM on Linux Redhat 7.1 for CVS trunk build from 20020130.
Browser doesn't exit or crash.
David or anybody, can you reproduce this?
It was last seen two years ago and hope is that this bug might finally have
"magically fixed itself" by now...
It appears to have "magically fixed itself". I've been using a Mac for most of
the past year so I can't say when it started working, but I just tried it using
the 1.3 release on Linux (RedHat 8.0) and I think it's working correctly.

I wasn't asked to pick an application. It just read my .mailcap file and
launched Real Player as expected.
So let's "magically" resolve this as WORKSFORME.
If it happens again, you can reopen this bug.

On Edit - Preferences - Helper Applications you can edit what happens with
content of a specific type. There you can also make Mozilla to open the "What
should I do with this?" dialog again in case you have previously clicked "Don't
ask me again".
