Details

1. on the iphone/ipod select settings->general->keyboard->international keyboards 2. select multiple keyboards: ie, english, german, french, both types of japanese, both types of simplified chinese 3. go to firefox Home 4. select "I have a sync account" 5. in the account name, select the japanese ime, type something 6. select the password field. Expected: the IME should stay the same Actual: the IME changes to the top active keyboard (ie if english was turned off, it will switch to german instead) Note: 1. happens on iOS 4 and iOS 3 2. does not occur in other apps like address book
This is standard behaviour for the secure text field. It simpy does not accept international characters by design. I doubt we can change this.

Stefan - are you saying that iOS does not allow you to use unicode characters in passwords? If so, why does it work in other apps like the address book? Are unicode characters only allowed in Apple apps but not 3rd party apps?
There are no password fields in the address book app. I have tried a bunch of other apps, including apps written by Apple like Find my iPhone and the Mobile Me app, and the keyboard always automatically switches back to the first roman language available when you go to a password field. There is also no API to influence this. Therefore I assumed it is standard behavior. If we need to support unicode password then we will probably have to implement our own password text field. This is most certainly possible.
Summary: If there's more than one keyboard, the keyboard will switch to the top active keyboard when going to the next field. → Firefox Home does not allow unicode password entry
I have renamed this bug to specifically mention password entry. One more thing I found out: with multiple keyboards enabled, the iOS only allows you to switch to roman keyboard when you have a password field selected. It is simply not possible to select a non-roman keyboard.
This should not be a major issue if we implement easier setup.
