StR: 1. Open Addons Manager 2. Click the "Settings" button to open the Addons Manager popup 3. Select Install Addon from File and pick a local xpi file Expected Results: Addon gets installed. Actual Results: Nothing happens. If I wait around for awhile, sometimes I see the Install addon sheet slide down with the countdown timer. Sometimes its after a tab switch (then back to the about:addons tab), other times, nothing. Sometimes I get a doorhanger notification that my addon is not compatible, even though I have compatibility checking turned off.
Which add-on are you trying to install? More information would be helpful so we could investigate the issue. Also please attach your extensions.ini and extensions.sqlite file.
Are you seeing anything in the error console? How about if you enable extensions.logging.enabled?
I'll retest this later today. I didn't see anything on the error console at the time. ftr, this is on Minefield nightlies. Original report would've been from 10-07 build, Mac OS X.
I'm seeing the same behavior on Shredder and Minefield (10/22/2010 nightlies). On Minefield I don't have the error console enabled, but on Shredder I'm not seeing anything show up there. I'm seeing this behavior on Windows 7, FWIW, this should block 4 as it completely destroy's thunderbird's ability to use addons (they all must be installed from local files).

Are you running with extensions.logging.enabled on?
Clint, can you answer comment 5? I guess this needs to block but it sure is going to be difficult to solve when I can't reproduce myself and so far have no clue why it is happening.

In Shredder you are likely just seeing the issue that Thunderbird hasn't implemented notifications for incompatible/broken installs triggered by webpages (I think this is covered by bug 585443)
Neither Rob or Clint can reproduce this anymore and I've got no clues what might have been causing this so closing as WFM. Please reopen if you see it in Minefield again.
