As part of the overall mozilla.com redesign, we'll need to update the Mozilla blog as well. For starters, simply reskinning the current content in the new style would work great. But, if the PR team has any additional improvements in mind, now would be a great time to suggest them. (hint hint)
This is part of content batch 4 as laid out in Mike's schedule, which makes the creative due date 10/22. But, we're trying to stay a step ahead here and will shoot to have it ready a lot sooner than that.
Thanks!

- only 2 blogs FPO
- John, is there a more Official Search box? I took this from a SUMO psd

Minor quibble/suggestion: the current illustration with the talk bubble and bold "blog" clashes with the bold "blog" in the headline. I know it looks that way on the live site but the new designs make it more apparent. If the illustration is FPO and we are updating it to something new, then problem solved and ignore me :)

There's a new one, yes. Do you have the AMO psds? If so, check there. If not, let me know and I'll send 'em to you.

Great point, and I totally agree. We don't have a new illustration in the works, so this is definitely valid.
Seems like the potential solutions are:
- remove the "Mozilla Blog" header text. Not ideal b/c this is, in fact, the Mozilla Blog. Also, what else would go there?
- keep the illustration, but have the guy saying something else, like "NEWS". PR team, any ideas on that?
- create a new illustration (or use the press hat that we already have)
My vote would be #2 if we can find the right word. PR team...what do you think?
- keep the illustration, but have the guy saying something else, like "NEWS".
PR team, any ideas on that?

i'm not great at articulating design feedback, so take all of this in stride...
the guy at the top is the most compelling visual element on the page so i'm in favor of keeping him but i am not sure if i want him to say NEWS. I don't have any suggestions about alternatives but Shannon, cc'd on the bug, may have some suggestions based on things she's seen work on other official blogs...
i liked the softer lines between posts on the existing blog.

I like the illustration because it does add a visually appealing element but I agree that Blog clashes. I am not opposed to NEWS, but something like announcements might work. Although I see the problem with squeezing the word announcements into that tiny bubble. Perhaps there is another illustration we can use? The press hat will not be right since the Moz blog is for everyone (community, employees, users) not just press.
Can we move the "categories", "archives" and "more from Mozilla" to the right at all? It is too close to the blog content and makes the page look a bit cluttered.
In addition, these might be items that we need to change in Word Press, but can we swap out "Press releases" for announcements in the "categories" section. And it would be great if we could add a "Share this" with favicons for Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Hi all,
I'm reposting the blog mock up here, to keep things moving along.
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/mozilla_blog_01.jpg
I made some refinements to the margin between the main content and the right column in regards to Shannon's feedback in comment #6, and also redesigned the blog entry headers in regards to Melissa's feedback in comment #5.
We still have the open issue of the hero graphic, however. If we decided on a particular word to call-out there (hopefully, smaller than "announcements")I can try to adjust that graphic.
Thanks!

This looks good to me. I think the main thing left to do is figure out what the little guy should be saying. Shannon, what do you think? Can you offer up some suggestions?
Also, a couple of very small nits:
- do we need that line beneath the little guy? It seems a bit superfluous to me. If it should be in there b/c of the overall site style, though, that's fine.
- can we use this opportunity to change the description of the blog (at the bottom of the sidebar)? In particular, I hate the "360 degree look" part. PR team, any suggestions?

For the little guy, I think it should be inviting and non-descriptive since users will already know what to expect in regards to content with the "Mozilla Blog" headline.
Something like "Hello" or "Welcome!" maybe?

Here's another mockup,
- HELLO turned on
- gradated line between page title and first blog entry, removed
(john, most of the pages have been using this graphic element, but i agree that it looks superfluous on this page)

How about something like "The Mozilla Blog is the official blog for Mozilla-related news, opinions, events and more"?
Just changed the current sentence a little.

Or "Is the official source" instead of "official blog"?

I think "official source" is better. I remember when we originally launched the blog in 2007 pkim was super wary of making it sound like the only official mouthpiece. Of course, a lot has changed since then.
Shaps, any thought on the wording here?

Is it possible to make one more change? Apologies for not catching this earlier.
In the "More from Mozilla" section can we add "Mobile Blog"
