Details

Please change the domain name of air.mozilla.com to air.mozilla.org. This is part of the overall domain name strategy project driven by the website taskforce. More details here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Taskforce/Proposals/Domain_Name_Strategy Here's a link to the overall tracking bug for this project: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606278
What happens to air.mozilla.com? Goes nowhere or redirects or continues to work?
redirects. basically flipping the current situation where .org redirects to .com

Do you have desired ETAs for these hostname changes?
Tiffney mentioned that Air Mozilla was going live with a new design in the new couple of weeks, so ideally we'd be able to coordinate and switch over when the new design goes live.
Please re-open this when its closer to deployment.

Reopening. As mentioned in comment #4 this is intended to go live along with the new Air Mozilla design in just a couple of weeks. We can move forward now with planning how the switch should happen, making changes on stage as needed and testing.

Move this back to server-ops when it's ready for ops to actually do something with it.

Just got an update on the overarching Air Mozilla redesign project from Ryan - it's a bit delayed so won't be ready to be built until late November or so, at which time this domain name switch is on their radar. See list of related bugs here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?product=Websites&component=air.mozilla.com&resolution=
Ryan or Tiffney - Any update on the redesign launch for Air Mozilla? This bug is tied to that project. Thanks!

Ryan, since the plan for the Air Mozilla redesign seems to be uncertain right now, is there a way we could move forward with this domain change separate from launching the new design?
Matthew, Dave, the domain change from air.mozilla.com to air.mozilla.org is not dependent on any other releases and can take place at any time. This will likely be a simple switch of the domain name, with a redirect of all traffic from air.mozilla.com to air.mozilla.org. If there's anything else you need from me for this switch, just holler. Thanks!

I'm a bit confused (and coming in well after this bug was first opened up).. I thought the whole idea was to move everything toward mozilla.com, or at least that is what I have been told. This would be a regression. Maybe the switch to .org here came before the decision to move everything to .com?
Corey, good to clear up any confusion about this since the goal is actually the opposite -- we want to move off of organization specific domains for public sites (including mozilla.com and mozillamessaging.com). You can see the full domain name strategy at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Taskforce/Proposals/Domain_Name_Strategy with the short version being we are moving to a model of sites living at: http://service.mozilla.org/sub-category Basically following the way AMO is set up now. That site is a service for discovering and serving add-ons and is categorized by application: addons.mozilla.org/firefox addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird etc. There is a list of sites to transition at the following link. We had started this at the end of last year and put it on hold because of the launch and now want to pick things up again. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Taskforce/Proposals/Domain_Name_Strategy#Implementation If you'd like to talk through this with me in general, I'm happy to give you the history and status of all of this.
Ryan, good to hear this doesn't need to be dependent on a redesign. I'll talk through this with Corey and see what makes sense.

Jeremy, let's make sure a redirect or cname is left behind for .com when this is changed.

Just confirming again, this can be done at any time?
Yes, this can happen whenever. Feel free to schedule it for whenever works best for you.
Changed.

Maybe this needs more time to go through, but I don't see this change live yet. When I go to air.mozilla.com I'm not taken to air.mozilla.org. Just to confirm, the goal is to not have air.mozilla.com show up as a URL for the site, although people can still access the site with that.
Status: RESOLVED → REOPENED
Resolution: FIXED → ---
Right, all air.mozilla.com requests should be redirected to air.mozilla.org.
Redirect is in place now.
