Downloading of xcode_3.2.4_and_ios_sdk_4.1dmg (which is over 2GB) CPU usage to over 100% on Snow Leopard (10.6.4) on a MacbookPro.
Reproducible: Didn't try

1. Download ios SDK with xcode

I experience the same issue. Downloading recordings from my DVR over http, about 3–5 GB. CPU load on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro is quite high.
This is reproducible easily: just pick a download of a large file.

BTW: I can reproduce this behavior on
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0b9pre) Gecko/20110108 Firefox/4.0b9pre

This issue might not be limited to Firefox only; I see about 40 % CPU usage (on a Core 2 Duo CPU) in Safari.app when downloading a 4 GB file at 3 MB/s.
