This is a bug to track localizing the Tumucumaque landing page into Japanese and Portuguese. Full text to localize can be found on the en-US version of the page at
http://www.mozilla.org/parks/tumucumaque/
I can post the copy as a text-only attachment if that is helpful for anyone.

if first line is too long for a title, "Parque Tumucumaque" is an alternative

|

just a note: Tumucumaque park ISN'T located in northeastern Brazil.
Actually, it's in northern Brazil. :-)

That bit of the copy was approved by the scientists at the WWF who insisted that we list it as in northeastern Brazil.

Fernando, that was super fast. Impressive :)
I'm seeing some odd looking characters when viewing the attachment. Could you confirm that the text is showing up in that file in the correct way?

I took the text from Fernando's attachment and put a page up at:
http://www.mozilla.org/parks/tumucumaque/index.br.html
As noted earlier, there are a lot of odd looking characters in there. Maybe Bugzilla garbled things in the uploading process? Fernando, feel free to email me directly with the text or maybe try reposting?

looks like I attached the file with wrong encoding. fixing it now (though you can see current file setting file encoding to UTF-8)

Thanks for the new attachment. I added this text and it looks much better. Please let me know if I messed anything up when copying over. I'll also post to MozBR for review.
A couple of notes:
* The intro text is a little longer in Portuguese and is shifting some of the layout around. I'll try tweaking the margins a bit, but if we could say the same thing in slightly fewer words that would be good too.
* I'm asking the designer to create a donate button with Portuguese text (I know the right way to do this is with an HTML button and I'll go back and do that if there's time but since we just need one more donate button adding one more image can work).

hmmm, maybe you could use this in place:
O Parque Nacional das Montanhas do Tumucumaque é o lar de felinos majestosos como a onça-pintada. É também o codinome do Firefox 4. Estamos apoiando a WWF na conservação da Amazônia para manter lugares como o Parque de Tumucumaque protegidos. Ajude-nos!
less words than that would lose much relevant information :-/

Thanks -- this shorter text gives the layout a little more room when the window gets narrower.

The donate button on the Portuguese page now has the right text, so I believe this page has all of the elements in it now. We can still tweak text as needed.
There may also be some other strings to localize as the campaign goes on -- such as snippet, promo for Virtual Park, banners, etc.

the donation page doesn't exist, though

Good eye. It's still in development. Hopefully it will be ready next week.

I posted the copy from comment #17 on the page. Please make sure things were copied correctly.
The intro paragraph is a bit longer than before and we're running into the same spacing issue -- if there are 2 or 3 words we could cut that would be great. If not, I could add some extra spacing below the button.

you're right; I forgot the intro text had changed. the same paragraph from comment #12 can be used:
O Parque Nacional das Montanhas do Tumucumaque é o lar de felinos majestosos
como a onça-pintada. É também o codinome do Firefox 4. Estamos apoiando a WWF
protegidos. Ajude-nos!

I added the first paragraph from comment #12 back in. It should be live in a few minutes. Please let me know if it was copied incorrectly.

As part of having localized landing pages, we'd like to have localized snippets pointing people to the Japanese and Portuguese Tumucumaque pages.
The English snippet text is:
Firefox 4 is code-named Tumucumaque, after the world's largest rainforest park. <link>Help Mozilla protect natural ecosystems today</link>.
If we could have this localized by the end of the week, we'll be able to get these in for the February snippets.

Hey David,
The translation of this snippet is:
"Ajude a Mozilla a proteger eco sistemas naturais hoje"
Comment 25•14 years ago
|

<link>Ajude a Mozilla a proteger ecossistemas naturais hoje.</link>

Great, thanks. With the link that would be:
O Firefox 4 chama-se Tumucumaque em homenagem à maior floresta tropical do
planeta. <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/parks/tumucumaque/index.br.html">Ajude a Mozilla a proteger ecossistemas naturais hoje</a>.

David, we'd like to modify two words on the Japanese page. Could you commit this?

Oh sorry, we have more edits:
Tumucumaque (トゥムクマケ) -> トゥムクマケ (Tumucumaque)
to fit with the other materials, and a remaining typo
The modified file attached. We believe this is final...
