Details

Just seconds after launching Mozilla from the Quick Launch toolbar, before the Select User Profile dialog appeared, I got a dialog box with the above title. The second time this happened, the text of the dialog said: The instruction at "0x002f5b11" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "written". After I copied the text of the dialog box, I tried to reproduce the error again, but I could not. Both times the error occurred, I was using the nightly build of 2000111704.
Despite the name, EventReceiver is not part of NSPR now. It has been moved to XPCOM.

After updating to nightly build 2000112004, I haven't seen this error occur again.
My trick for re-creating the bug worked! The next time I started Mozilla after reporting that I hadn't seen this error for the past day, it happened again. :-) Here's the complete text from the System Event Log in Windows 2000 (Mozilla nightly build 2000112004): Application popup: NSPR:EventReceiver: mozilla.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x002f5b11" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "written". I also got this error from Mozilla nightly build 2000111704: Application popup: NSPR:EventReceiver: mozilla.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x28301d74" referenced memory at "0x28301d74". The memory could not be "read". I can't find any pattern as to when this error occurs. I just seems to happen randomly about 5% of the time I launch Mozilla. I can say that every time the error happened, I had some other programs running, and that I launched Mozilla from the Quick Launch Toolbar. It's hard to tell if the error is occurring before the Mozilla splash screen appears, because it usually is hidden by the windows of the other programs I'm running.
The error occurred again with 2000112004: Application popup: mozilla.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x002f5b11" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "written". I deleted the mozilla, netscape, and netscape6 directories, deleted all the Mozilla, Netscape, and FullCircle Software entries in the registry, ran RegClean, and installed 2000112104. The error occurred again: Application popup: NSPR:EventReceiver: mozilla.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x60d0e4e5" referenced memory at "0x002f67f0". The memory could not be "read". I did determine that this error occurs before the splash screen appears, but I still have not discovered how to reliably recreate the error.
Reporter are you still seeing this in the latest nightlies?
Yes, I'm still seeing this. I got this error while using a build from last week: Application popup: NSPR:EventReceiver: mozilla.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x60d3f2d6" referenced memory at "0x002f69f8". The memory could not be "read". I'm still getting it about 5% of the time I start Mozilla. I'm running Windows 2000 Server on a dual 266 MHz Pentium II system, and SETI@home, Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, Proxomitron, JRun, and SQL Server are always running in the background.
Marking NEW as per comments.

See bug 67479 for stack trace of same crash and it always happens on my machine now. I can't run Mozilla at all.
Am getting a similar error occasionally when exiting build 2001020904. Application popup: NSPR:EventReceiver: mozilla.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x60b16ef4" referenced memory at "0x0000000c". The memory could not be "read".
After getting a new computer, I hadn't seen this error in months. However, I finally installed JRun 2.3.3 last week, and today I got this error again with build 2001051604. My old computer was a dual 266 MHz Pentium II with EDO RAM, my new one is a dual 800 MHz Pentium III with RDRAM. I hope this is enough into to re-create this crash.
I haven't seen this crash for nearly a year. Marking WFM.
