Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12
In the past when I've used a Firefox 4 Beta, it has properly retained all my cookies. With Firefox 4 Beta 7, it removed all my cookies such that I have had to relogin to EVERY site. This is both in the beta as well as my 3.6.x browser.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have Firefox 3.6.x installed (but closed)
2. Download Firefox 4 Beta 7
3. Use Beta
4. Notice you're not logged in to any sites anymore
5. Close Beta
6. Open your 3.6.x Firefox and notice you're still not logged in
Actual Results:
Cookies are deleted
Expected Results:
Cookies are retained

Were you using the same profile when you went between Firefox 4 betas and Firefox 3.6?

Can you email me your cookies.sqlite file (it's in your profile directory)?

No. I'm assuming this is phishing.

Yes.
I did the same thing I've done every time I've tried a beta (NOTE: I'm on Linux):
1. Download the bzip file
2. Extract the bzip file
3. Close Firefox 3.6.x
4. Click the "firefox" executable for the beta to start it up
This has never caused a problem in the past.

A good reply, but I'm not: I'm the module owner for cookies. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Modules/Core and search for my name. As an employee of Mozilla, I can promise that I won't use your data for anything other than debugging this issue.
Alternatively, you can also create a cookie log. Browse around with 3.6, close it, then follow the instructions at https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_a_Cookie_Log, and start Firefox 4. Then send me the log file.

I'm sure it is related to BUG: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=612814
In Firefox 4.0 beta 7 cookies modified by Firefox 3 are deleted because they have "baseDomain" field set to null by Firefox 3. This should be fixed by setting proper baseDomain instead of deleting.

It *might* be related but the difference is I only did:
1. Use firefox 3.6.x
2. Use Firefox 4 beta
3. Use firefox 3.6.x
The cookies were already deleted by that point. Whereas your bug shows that you need to reload into FF4 beta again.

Comment 7 is correct, this is unrelated to bug 612814.
So, were you willing to send me your cookies.sqlite? If not, this is pretty impossible to debug.

Yes. You are right. It looked very similar, so I thought that it could be the same problem.

Hang on. Comment 0 and comment 7 are conflicting. In comment 0 you say that going from 3.6 to 4.0b7 loses your cookies. But comment 7 says that they're not lost until you go back to 3.6. Which is true?
I also assume that you've been using the same profile when going from 3.6 to various 4.0 betas and back; and your loss only occurred most recently when going from 3.6 to 4.0b7. Is this correct?
Finally, are all your cookies lost, or just ones for the sites you visit? You can check using the cookie manager in Preferences/Privacy. Start by browsing in 3.6, setting some cookies, then loading 4.0b7.

No, sorry I was unclear because I was responding to Jakub Kruszona-Zawadzki's post. My first post is the correct one, you lose the cookie settings even on first use of firefox 4.

Yes.

I'll do this after backing up my profile later tonight.
As for sending you my cookies, perhaps what I'll do is create a new profile, visit some sites, create logins to be sure there's cookies, open firefox 4 and send you those cookies to debug. That way I don't have to worry about my own saved cookies. Will this work properly and send you no identifying info?

Aha, OK. This could be a dupe of bug 612814 then. We shall see. :)

Thanks!

Yes, provided it still shows the problem. If it doesn't, then it won't help.

So sorry, I have been absolutely swamped at work and it's been bleeding into the weekends! :( I will make an effort to try this week. Again, sorry.
